What Are Cookies?

A cookie is a very small text file that a website asks your browser to keep. The next time you visit, the browser hands that file back, so the site can recognise something it saved earlier.

Cookies are ordinary and mostly boring. They are what keeps you logged into a website, what remembers the items in a shopping basket, and what stores whether you chose dark mode. They can also be used for tracking across websites, which is the use most people actually object to, and that is the use AniDoor does not have.

Similar technologies exist too, such as localStorage and sessionStorage. They work differently from cookies but have the same basic purpose, which is to let a website remember something in your browser. Those are covered further down this page.

How AniDoor May Use Cookies

AniDoor is a single free tool with no accounts and no logins, so there is very little for a cookie to do here. Here is the honest state of things:

If analytics or advertising are added in the future, this page will be updated to name the service and explain what it does, and any consent requirements that apply will be handled at that point.

Browser Storage

The Anime Character Name Generator uses localStorage, which is a small storage area built into your web browser. It is used for one feature: saving the names you mark as favourites, under a key named anidoor_favorites_v1.

localStorage is not a cookie. The important practical difference is that it is never automatically attached to requests sent to a server, which is exactly what happens with cookies.

The names you generate are also created entirely inside your browser. Nothing about them is uploaded, stored on a server or logged.

Managing Cookies

You are in control of cookies and browser storage, and you do not need our permission to change anything. Every modern browser lets you view what has been stored, delete it, and block it in future.

You will usually find these controls in your browser settings under a section called Privacy, Security, or Cookies and site data. From there you can typically:

• See which websites have stored cookies or data, and remove them individually
• Clear all browsing data, including cookies and localStorage, in one action
• Block cookies from all sites, or only from third parties
• Set the browser to clear everything automatically each time you close it
• Browse in a private or incognito window, which discards storage when you close it

Blocking storage for AniDoor is entirely reasonable and the generator will still work. The only thing you lose is the favourites feature, since there will be nowhere for saved names to live. Copy anything you want to keep before clearing your browser data.

Blocking cookies broadly across all websites may cause problems on other sites that genuinely need them, such as anything with a login, so it is worth being deliberate about that setting.

Third-Party Services

AniDoor does not currently load third-party scripts, embeds or external APIs on its pages. The name generator is fully self-contained, which is why there is so little to report on this page.

If third-party services are added later, such as analytics, advertising, embedded videos, social media widgets or a hosted contact form, those services may set their own cookies or use their own browser storage. They operate under their own privacy and cookie policies, not this one, and we would encourage you to review the policy of any provider named here at that time. This page will be updated whenever that happens.

Changes to This Policy

This policy describes the website as it currently works. If the functionality changes, for example if analytics are installed, ads are introduced, or a new feature needs to store something in your browser, this page will be updated to reflect that.

When it is updated, the date at the top of the page changes. It is worth a quick look if you are returning after a long gap.
